Eitas currently has a full-time opening for a Driver Supervisor to provide direct supervision to Drivers for our Division of Transportation (DOT).  Under the direction of the Transportation Manager, the Driver Supervisor will work closely with DOT Management, Dispatchers, and staff to ensure daily coverage of assigned routes.  During staffing shortages, the Driver Supervisor may also be called upon to serve as a back-up driver, performing all the duties of responsibly operating a multi-passenger bus in all temperatures and road conditions. The employee in this position will also be assigned a variety of general office duties including, but not limited to, routine office telephone communications and procedures, creating and maintaining spreadsheets and databases, and other tasks requiring above average computer and organizational skills. 

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: 

  • Supervise the performance of a team of Drivers, providing direction, performance counseling, recognition, and discipline as appropriate.  Ride along with assigned Drivers periodically, as needed.

  • Coordinate the scheduling of assigned Driver team to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely coverage of assigned routes.

  • Randomly review bus video footage and computer data of assigned Driver team regarding service quality and safety.  Discuss observations with Driver team as needed.

  • Evaluate Driver team on an ongoing basis and prepare written evaluations in a timely fashion.

  • Assist DOT Management in reinforcing established safety practices and compliance with company policies.  Assist in developing and implementing service procedures and policies.

Experience and Training Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Commercial Driver’s License 

  • Experience driving passenger vehicles, 3-5 years required

  • At least 1 year of management/supervisory experience

  • Good driving record

  • Knowledge of the Kansas City metropolitan area

  • Current certifications including, but not limited to, CDL, DOT medical, CPR and first aid

  • A combination of training, education and work experience performing similar duties will also be considered

Skills and Ability Required:

  • Ability to instruct, direct and evaluate employees

  • Ability to plan, schedule and organize duties

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Computer skills for word processing, database management and using GPS tracking software

  • Must be detail-oriented

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to provide customer service and handle a variety of people and situations in a positive manner

  • Ability to follow directions, follow route guides, and travel into various areas of Jackson County

  • Effective decision-making skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals during emergencies and in various emotional states

  • Ability to show care and sensitivity to the special needs of our clients and their families/guardians 

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and management

  • Must present a professional, business-like manner and appearance

Working Conditions:

The Driver Supervisor works a split shift, with an early morning shift, a mid-day break of approximately 3 hours, and an afternoon shift.  Work hours may vary per Driver team schedules, but may span from 5a.m. to 6 p.m.  The person in this position will be required to work in an office setting with periods of standing, sitting, occasional reaching overhead, frequent handling of paperwork and computer equipment, and frequent grasping.

When serving as back-up route driver, the Driver Supervisor will frequently climb to enter and exit the bus, sit, stand, bend, squat and move intermittently while driving.  Will push, pull and move wheelchairs in excess of 50 pounds.  Will use manual dexterity to manipulate levers, tie-down straps and seatbelts, and complete required paperwork.  Work is performed indoors and outdoors, with exposure to various temperatures and road conditions.

The person in this position will be required to frequently interact with others in person and on the phone, and continuously exercise clarity of vision at close range to perform job duties.

Work hours may require some evening and weekend work as needed.  Regular attendance is required.
